Getting through the month of February has certainly been a challenge for many of us, with the wintery mix of snow, freezing rain and the below freezing temperatures.   The month of March brings a new sense of hope and I for one, am anxiously awaiting the first signs of spring and warmer weather.   The first full week in March is “Careers in Aging Week”.  People are living longer and the demand for nurses, nurse aides, home health, and personal care workers is increasing dramatically.  It is estimated that the U.S. will need between 5.7 and 6.5 million workers to care for the 27 million Americans who will require long term care by 2050.  Help us raise awareness about the rewarding careers available in long term care.  Ask your loved one’s nurse or nurse aide what they love about their career and encourage the next generation to consider a career in long term care.

March is also recognized as National Professional Social Worker Month.  We would like to take this opportunity to thank our Social Worker, Cassandra Wood for her dedication and commitment to the residents and their families.  Cassandra is always available with a listening ear and a lending hand. We are so grateful to have her as part of our team.   Looking ahead we will be having our Volunteer Appreciation Dinner for both MNRC and Pennington Square volunteers, Thursday, April 11th.  There will be more details to come in the April newsletter. Volunteers will also be receiving a personal invitation in the mail.  We are so thankful for each and every one of you!
