Activities in Action
Happy March from the Activity Department!
I would like to welcome our new Recreation Program Director, Jennifer “Jenn” Woods. Jenn resides in Coggon with her husband, Aaron, 10-year-old, son Nolan, and 3-year-old twins, Hudson and Hadley. She also has a 19-year-old daughter, Madisyn that attends UNI. Jenn likes watching the Chicago Cubs and Pittsburgh Steelers, cooking, gardening, camping, and spending time outside with her kids. For 13 years she worked as a Psych Tech at Abbe Center for Community Care. When that closed she went to Penn Center and worked as a Site Leader for 5 years. Please give Jenn a warm welcome as you see her leading activities or strolling the halls at MNRC.
During the month of March, we have a lot to celebrate; Employee Appreciation Day, Mardi Gras, St. Patrick’s Day, the start of March Madness and the first day of spring. To start off the month we will be celebrating Mardi Gras with a cooking class put on by Chef Jason Tuesday, March 5th. He will be making Mardi Gras traditional king cake, a delicious fried pastry along with coffee in the morning. During the afternoon we will be having a Mardi Gras party with margaritas, purple, gold, and green cupcakes, music, and fun trivia. This month we will be playing several different games based around St. Patrick’s Day. Some games include: pot o’ gold dice game, penny luck, roll a leprechaun, and clover all over. Although, it doesn’t feel or look like spring, March 20th marks the first day of spring. On this day we will have a spring discussion where we will talk about different events that happen in spring. Residents will also be making spring birds that will be hung in the main lobby for all to see.
Don’t forget to change your clocks on March 10th as we spring forward for daylight savings.
