Happy June!  The summer solstice is June 21st, the longest day of the year and the Alzheimer’s Association has created a campaign to raise awareness and money to end Alzheimer’s disease called “The Longest Day”.  “The Longest Day” is all about love; love for all those affected by Alzheimer’s disease.  Monticello Nursing and Rehab, along with the Alzheimer’s Association is inviting you to join us in raising awareness on “The Longest Day” by wearing purple June 21st.  We will also be “NuStepping to End Alzheimer’s”.  Residents, staff, and all loved ones are invited to take a turn on the Nustep machine which we will keep in continuous motion on “The Longest Day”.  We will be setting a mileage goal and are accepting pledges per mile or/and donations.  Contact Leann at 319-465-5415 to sign up for a “NuStep time slot”, to make a donation/pledge or with any questions.

Last month I mentioned that we are looking forward to our 50th Anniversary Celebration and are busy planning the festivities.  Senior Care, Inc. opened its doors on August 10, 1968, “designed for the beauty, comfort and care of its residents”.  The cost of the project was $500,000, raised by private donors and local investors.   Dr. E. H. DeShaw was the president of the board of directors, while Mike Goettsch was the first administrator of the Senior Home, Inc.  While so much has changed in the past 50 years, it’s clear that the mission of providing quality care for seniors has remained the same.  Mark your calendars for August 12, 2018 and join us from 2:00-4:30pm to celebrate 50 years of kind, compassionate care.  Watch for more details next month!
