Summer is flying by and it’s hard to believe that August has arrived.  We are so excited to be celebrating our 50th anniversary at Monticello Nursing and Rehab.  On August 10, 1968, Senior Home, Inc. opened its doors, dedicated to providing quality care for seniors in the community.  The original board of directors included Wesley Hodge, Elton Copley, Max McCabb, Dr. E.H. DeShaw, Mrs. Eloise Helgens, Dr. Otto Senft, Alva Freese, E.H. Hulbregtse, Frank Shimanek, Henry Adams and Leigh Clark.  Our first Administrator was Mike Goettsch.  Please join us on Sunday, August 12th for a special 50th birthday celebration as we acknowledge these men and women who were so important to the opening of Senior Home, Inc.   A large display showcasing the history of Monticello Nursing and Rehab will be in the main lobby, along with cake and refreshments.  Tours of the facility will be available throughout the day and outside in the parking lot, ‘Fever River String Band’, an old-time fiddle and string band will be performing.  We will have a bouncy house, face painting, bingo and lots of carnival food to enjoy.  The celebration is from 2:00-4:30 pm and we hope you will all come and celebrate with us!!

Looking ahead, we are getting a team together again this year to participate in the Alzheimer’s Association, “Walk to End ALZ”.  The walk will take place Saturday, September 29th at the McGrath Amphitheater in Cedar Rapids.  Registration begins at 8:30 am with the opening ceremony at 9:30 am and the walk at 10:00 am.  If you are interested in being on our walk team or donating to #ENDALZ, contact Leann at MNRC at 319-465-5415.
