Happy Spring—my favorite time of year.  I love the way the grass seems to turn green overnight; how quickly the leaves burst open; seeing the first robin and the early spring flowers like the crocus and hyacinth.  Taking a few moments outdoors can boost your mood, clear your mind and decrease fatigue.  Being able to enjoy the outdoors may be something we take for granted, but take a moment to consider the elderly in our community and the barriers they face in taking a stroll outdoors.  Physical limitations, the inability to meet some of the environmental challenges of the outdoors and feeling unsafe are certainly at the top of the list.  With National Volunteer Week approaching this month, what better way to serve, than helping seniors enjoy the outdoors.  At MNRC, we would love to have an extra hand helping residents get a little fresh air, pushing their wheelchair around the campus for a few minutes or simply sitting and chatting with residents on the outdoor patio.

Speaking of National Volunteer Week, we want to acknowledge all our amazing volunteers and let them know how much we appreciate all they do for us, our residents and their families.  Please be watching the mail for your invitation to our annual Volunteer Appreciation Dinner scheduled for Tuesday evening, April 17th from 5pm-7pm.  We hope you will all be able to join us for an evening of fun, fellowship and appreciation!  Please be sure to RSVP to Heather or Leann at 319-465-5415. Thank you!
